Well, following a disastrous weekend foodwise, the scales weren't too unkind this morning, showing a gain of 600gr. To be honest I'd expect that much on a normal weekend, an up-fluc prior to a fast day.

I do feel sluggish and lethargic though.

Fast day today and I can't describe how much I'm looking forward to my super-healthy breakfast bowl :)

The weekend makes me wonder - how do people live like that? It's no wonder diet-realated disease is so prevalent. Here's the breakdown of what I was offered at the weekend - breakfast: cheese filled pastry or sesame bread ring; lunch: toasted sandwich filled with cheese, dill pickle & mayonnaise; tea-break: mini cakes and pastries; dinner: "pide" - Turkish style thin pizza topped with cheese. Of course there were "meat" alternatives to these but I don't like meat much and especially not the highly processed salami or sausage type products on offer. Everything made from white flour and all high in sugar, fat and salt. Vegetables stop at a slice of tomato in the toasted sandwich! I did have some apples with me, thank goodness, and I didn't accept any of the soda type drinks - I never drink them anyway.

Anyway, back on track today and hopefully I can replenish my energy despite it being a fast day.

Back down to a place I'm happier with although yesterday was a real struggle and I finished the day on about 700 calories, which is really too high to reap all the benefits of extra low-cal intermittent days - I should be aiming for about 25% of normal daily intake which is 400-500 calories.

I'm going to try having just one meal on fast days because I really love my breakfast and it comes in at about 400 calories. When it comes to the second meal I don't feel ravenously hungry until I start eating so perhaps it would be easier not to start? We'll give it a try next week.

An extremely busy weekend ahead - I'm training examiners again tomorrow and Sunday, about 100 km away, then on Monday and Tuesday the long-awaited Ministry of Education Inspectors will be in our school. Although I know I've got everything under control their visit is still a great cause of stress. Because we're a private school we have some major changes to our curriculum from the state plans. The Inspectors know this, and we know that they know, but for an inspection we have to appear to be following the state curriculum and rules! It's against my nature to be even a little bit dishonest so even though they know that I know that they know it's different, the pretence mustn't slip! Madness! Roll on Wednesday.

Edit - changed my goal weight with the intention of dropping a further 3lbs or 1.5 kg.

Came in under RDI yesterday - I haven't actually done that for quite a long time on a non-fast day because I nearly always have evening snacks that I don't record! The snack is most often a mini-magnum ice cream at 150 or 160 calories so I do count it mentally!

Anyway, down 500 gr today and planning another day well within RDI today and the usual fast day tomorrow.

When I weigh in on Friday I think it's also time to change my goal weight. I've had it in my mind since I first touched goal last summer that I'd like to lose a further 2 kg but it's not happening because I'm not really trying. I think it's safe to say, looking at my chart, that I can maintain succesfully within a kilo or so of 57 kg, my original goal, so I think having achieved that, it's now time to make a last push.

Since my MiL was diagnosed with cancer all the adults in the family have been planning to have a full medical check up. Apparently I have insurance (says hubby) which will cover it but it runs out very soon. I think a check up is a good idea and also a great opportunity to get all those numbers checked - blood & cholesterol levels - and see what effect, if any, the 5:2 eating pattern is having.
