Hello my friends. My father-in-law died yesterday about 5:00 pm. He was comfortable with morphine assisting him and passed peacefully. We are hoping to be able to get into his apartment today and gather some personal belongings, whatever it is that the fake MIL's family left for us and decided was 'his' and not fake MIL's. Who knows what they left. One of fake MIL's daughter's called to let us know all my FIL's things were left in a bedroom. Obviously the owner's let her family in ... not sure why they would not permit us in.
We are doing okay. Relieved he is no longer struggling and of course sad too ... that he will no longer be a part of our day-to-day life.
Eating has not been good. We spent part of Saturday with him and he was pretty interactive. Then most of Sunday which has meant eating out a lot, and of course stress too. Any gain I have is temporary and I'm going to do my best NOT to fret about it. In fact, I probably will not weigh until the end of the week, giving myself a little recuperation time to get back into my routines.
So the circle of life is complete for my father-in-law. I'm glad he appeared to know who we were on Saturday and am glad we spent time with him during his last hours. I wish I was home today but I had to come to work ... an appointment I couldn't cancel and an intern starting today with no one else to orient her.

Oh Carol, your going through so much right now, I really feel for you. I really hope you are able to get what you want from the appartment, and that no one has taken or destroyed it. If you need anything, I'm always here. HUGS

Bob is in the apartment. I guess they just piled everything they didn't want in one room and it is a mess. None of his paintings are there but his clock tools are. I will go this afternoon and help him sort through things.

A peaceful ending is a blessing and will help you both come to terms with the loss. It is sad to see someones posessions piled up but they are just things -they are not the wealth of memories and the lifetime of love and laughter you shared. I'm sending you love,hugs and positive thoughts to help you through this and take comfort from the fact that you won't have to deal with fake MIL much longer.
p.s. My paternal grandfather repaired clocks and watches as a hobby and I have some of his tools. Keep smiling and supporting Bob
