Daily exercise is paramount! Even on those days where I consume nearly double my goal for food, I can redeem myself as long as a do at least a half hour of cardio every day, preferably closer to an hour. My body and my mind are both more inclined to feeling good as long as I stay with this one rule. And my legs never looked better at this weight. I may not be able to lose to the original goal weight if I am muscled, so I'll probably adjust that.

I had a chance to join a WW group here where I live and opted not to - I figured that my exercise routine was where I wanted to focus my energies - and no amount of paying dues has ever been adequate motivation for me in the long run. Sure, I've taken off pounds doing WW, but the minute the class ends, I'm in trouble again. Also, even though I weigh 11 pounds more than I did the last time I completed a WW class, the clothes I could barely fit into at the time are a relaxed fit on me now. Proves that exercise will reduce your thighs a whole lot faster than calculating everything you eat.
Once again, if I must obsess about something, I prefer obsessing about exercise rather than food.

Sticking with a high level of exercise has really made all the difference. My mood is far better when I get a good aerobic workout every day. If I'm don't sweat, it shows in how I feel the rest of the day.
I've also started noticing that the days that I eat too much are often the same days that I don't get social enough. So no excuse for staying home and not connecting with others. If I don't connect with people, I'll surely substitute by connecting with food.

I am getting addicted to all this activity. And instead of what I have done in the past (worked out and dieted until I got to a shape I was happy with -- then give it up), I intend for this to be my retirement job. Alarm at 6:45 every day, some yoga or aerobics class, and plenty of time to prepare good foods that will be waiting in the fridge the moment I need some.
I've also made a commitment to staying in better touch with other people, since loneliness seems to be a big factor in my past eating behaviors. You know, too fat to look good in my clothes, too embarrassed to be seen by my friends, afraid of what that potluck is going to do to me and how humiliating it will be not to be able to avoid pigging out, so I stay home and watch movies and eat alone, like a hardened alcoholic drinks.
I know it's early in the game for me to say all this, but I have never felt so committed, and for all the right reasons - a desire to be active and capable of doing everything I enjoy long into my old age.
When someone offers me a doughnut, I say, "No thanks! I'm in training for my 80s."

I actually hid my scale to keep me from standing on it every day, since I have joined an aerobics class three times a week, have started doing weight training at the gym and have added swimming and walking stairs to my routine. I have NOT been worrying much about what I eat, and find that doing all that exercise tends to cause me to eat healthier foods. Maybe it's just the idea of putting non-nutritious food into a body that is doing so much good work that is causing me to eat better. I have been working hard at getting 3-4 servings of fruit (easy) and 5-6 servings of veggies (not so easy) every day, and that also tends to cause me to eat less junky stuff.
In the final analysis, I haven't lost very much weight, but I am fully aware that muscle weighs more than fat, and my pants are looking a lot better on me, so I am far less concerned about my weight than I have been. I have also noticed my legs are getting more muscular, my joints hurt less and I have more endurance all the time.
