I read some where that people underestimate the calories they eat by 25-50%! I know that's what I was doing... Something that Bill my brother told me a few weeks ago i think has really changed things. I can't remember what he said exactly, but it was like, "It doesn't matter which diet you choose, the bottom line is, you have to take in less calories than you spend. IF you do, then you will lose weight. and if you don't, then you won't. Simple as that."

I think all of this time I have been so hung up on what i was eating- the combination of foods and what times of the day i eat them... and all of that is somewhat important, but I have never sat down and actually been able to see exactly how much is going in and out... and I think THAT is why this is going to work... It's like what bill said is "well, DUH" but I seem to have somehow forgotten about that very simple rule. Does that make sense ??? I don't know how I could have forgotten about that, I always knew it, but you hear so many diets being like, "don;'t count calories, just eat this combination of foods and you will lose weight" Well, I'm starting to think that's all bull. You can eat all the whole whet pasta and tortillas and lean chicken and fish and eat organic or vegetarian or whatever, but you can still end up taking in 3000+ calories a day if you're not careful!!

So like I can go to olive garden and get the fettuccine Alfredo and desert and drink some wine and if equals 1000 calories for that one meal (which it probably would) then I would just have to eat a small green salad (or nothing) for dinner. but at least i got my big tasty lunch!

I totally agree with your journal entry. I spent a lot of time thinking Well if I don't eat after 7:00 pm I should be ok. If I am eating a salad, it is healthy. But I didn't notice that some salads are pretty high up in calories, especially with dressing. Also, little snacks you eat, even fruits, add up in calories. I didn't pay attention to snacking before, but now I realize how much I was eating, it is shocking. I have been watching this show called cook yourself thin. It brings awareness to calorie intake and also how to cut down unneeded calories. Good luck!
