My hubby passed away on January 9th, 2011. the Leukemia was too much for him. Darn VA Doctors are idiots... wanted to wait after their Christmas vacation to start his Chemo... yea ...right... At least he isnt' suffering any more. with 3 of his 6 children at his side they watched him take his last breath. I couldn't be in the room... this was too hard for me as is. I know he's in Heaven now and no longer hurting.
The memorial was beautiful with the WWR (Warrior Watch Riders) and PGR (Patriot Guard Riders) and Soldiers Angels all holding flags around the walk ways to the building by a beautiful park with oaks by the bay and a motor cycle escort with Flags Flying. A room built for 100 had standing room only. The Mayor of Panama City Beach set a proclamation that Saturday, January 15, 2011 was "David Higgins Day" which was a total surprise and a Huge Honor for our family. Totally unexpected.
The Soldiers Angels put on a benefit and raised a lot of $ for me to help me and our adult children with travel expenses and funeral expenses.
I am truely blessed and had no idea the impact My husband and I had on others till now. I will continue to be a part of the veterans groups as I have beend doing. And recommend that anyone wanting to be a part of something bigger than themselves, join a veterans group... the rewards are far greater and over whelming at times.

I'm deeply sorry for your tremendous loss. Please accept my condolences. It is truly wonderful that your husband and your family were honored with the proclamation of David Higgins Day. What a blessing. Best wishes - I know the days ahead will be challenging. I am happy you have a large family of loved ones to lean on...and your family here, too.

When My husband and I took in teenagers who couldn't see eye to eye with their own parents, when we helped a divorced man back on his feet, Another family in need a place to lay thier heads, when we joined with the Patriot Guard and Warrior Watch Riders, when we helped a family after Katrina... when that same family lost a son in Iraq... we were there to lend a hand... never taking "No" for an answer... it was always something bigger than myself... never ever dreamed that the kindness and generousity of others would come back to me 10 fold.
I am truely blessed. I have a bit of a struggle in front of me, only God knows the plan, and for whatever reason that plan may be, I'm letting him do the driving. For Whatever lessons I need to learn from all this, I am ready to learn it. I'm taking it all one day at a time.
Till I meet with my Husband and Best Friend again, I will continue to be involved with the Veterans groups... though I can't help as much as I want to anymore, I will do what I can. Doing the best we can with what we've got... it aint much ... but we're going to do the best we can.
