Snowwhite100的日记, 2021年07月7日

I realize my brain is strange, but I wonder if anyone else has these thoughts. When I am being strict to lose weight I can't really understand other people that are binging or eating unhealthy food. But conversely, when I am binging I don't know how to get control back and don't understand people who are able to be really strict. When I have fallen off the wagon, in the past I have gone as long as a year before I got control back, and perhaps have gone up 5 sizes.

Currently, I was really strict near the end of my 6-month challenge for Healthy Wage to lose 20 lbs, and was thinking about the things I could have after the challenge was over, even fantasizing about it. It ended for me on June 26th, 10 days ago, and boy did I let loose after and gained 6 lbs, going up a full size in my clothing in that 10 days. I couldn't think of how to get control back in all the different ways I talked to myself, trying to reason with my "higher" self. Today was the first day that I haven't binged on sweets, bread, and wine. Maybe, just maybe, I can get back on track. I am lousy at maintenance. I want to be strict to lose that one size and probably would like to go down one more size, so I can get into more of my old clothes. If I manage that, I know I will start eating more fruit, plus wine before dinner, and will start gaining again. If I was more active maybe I could handle those things, but with my bad back, I may never be very active. It's just very positive that I have one day under my belt of no binging. I think the answer is that I am just very (think extremely) addicted to anything that turns to sugar in my body.

You can do it. Each time you’re about to bing or eat crap, stop for a few seconds and pretend to eat it, then imagine how you’d feel once you’ve eaten it. Guilty, embarrassed or disappointed? Once you’ve finished eating it, it’s done, gone, no more taste or chewing. That’s it. Now… was it worth it? If you can do this each time, I swear it’ll actually stop you. Maybe not every time but eventually you’ll think this way more and more. This worked for me to quit smoking and is now working for me to stop eating crap and get healthy. Just an idea. Just trying to help. Good luck 🍀

ShilohLance, I like that idea and I will try it. Thank you.

Believe me, I know that out-of-control feeling, as until the end of December, I was coming off of a 1-1/2 year binge! Thankfully, after the HW challenge, I only spent about half of a week eating things I really should not have had - ice cream, tortilla chip scoops, etc. Since then, I've been able to get back to MOSTLY making good choices. The challenge for me is when I have those I-want-to-eat-all-day days! I have NOT been doing as well on my water as I should be doing. I've only had six 8-oz cups the past couple days in a row. As you well know, sister, "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Try, as much as you can, to make it a spiritual matter. Admit your weakness to God, and pray for Him to give you the strength and God-control you need. I predict you'll be back ON the wagon in the next day or so, and I'm leaning over the side with a hand extended to help pull you back in. Until then, why don't you go back to the Intermittent Fasting you are so good at? At least you'd be eating fewer hours in the day. I have never been able to be successful at Intermittent Fasting. Strange, huh?

I've found the best way to not be tempted to binge .... #1. not have trigger foods in your house. this is the biggest thing. if you have a pack of Oreos , you'll eat the whole thing in a binge. but when's the last time you ate can after can of tuna and just couldn't stop? my best guess is never. #2. eat foods throughout the day that you enjoy. healthy lower calorie foods of course. everyone has bad days now and then. it happens. and sometimes you just need a high cal day to stay sane. if you have one of those days..... move a little more be a little more active try to make up for the extra calories you took in. also being more active helps me keep my mind off food .

I can totally, totally relate. The struggle is real! All we can do is keep trying!

I could have written this about myself. Higher carb foods trigger hunger hormones and once the cycle starts, it's hard to stop. Try a fat or egg fast for a day or three, that should end the binges, then you can get on program.

That carb cycle is so addictive. And it makes you think you can eat a whole meal after you just ate. You never feel full until you are stuffed to a sludge. I agree with the above advise. Tough through a fast and it will help you break the cycle.

When I'm stuck, an egg fast really helps to re-motivate me. I love eggs, but truthfully, if I do a 4-5 day egg fast, I get tired of them really quickly. But by then, I've dropped a few pounds and am all set to hit the keto or LCHF WOE again. The other motivator is working in the garden in 90 degree heat and 90 degree humidity! Then I am too tired to want anything except a cold protein smoothie.

I understand feeling out of control. My strategy is 2) to only bring home food that my reasonable self wants in my body. That way, if I crave something, I have to satisfy that with something non injurious to me. I have nothing in my house that I should not eat. 3) don’t go on a diet or deprive yourself. Eat the way you can eat forever, or weight will return. 4) eat plenty. Non processed foods have bulk and will allow you to eat until full and satisfied. 4) drink only water or herbal/decaf tea/milks and stay hydrated. 5) If your back allows, take a short walk after meals, or climb stairs. A little exercise will calm appetite. 6) Avoid watching TV commercials that advertise food! 7) find a nice hobby All the best !☀️☀️☀️

When I see something I want that is off limits I keep telling myself that the flavor and pleasure of eating it lasts for such a short time. In a minute after swallowing the taste and pleasure is gone, but the guilt keeps going. All those negative feelings about myself will linger and linger. Keep telling myself it's just not worth the consequences. Usually it works for me.
