Today was a sad day. Today was an enlighten day. Today may be a breakthrough day. Took Ernie to pain clinic for the nerve shots to block the horrific pain. A little background first . Ernie's pain has increased so much that I sometimes think I can feel it. His moaning , swearing, and screaming are beyond explanation . He has become verbally hostile . In forty years he has never called me a mean name. The last few weeks this has changed. He is taking Norco and Gabipenten (spelling) at night but only at night. They may help lessen the pain but I still hear pain sounds as he sleeps. Back to the day of enlightenment. Ern has not been taking care of himself. If I say anything it started a fight . TODAY the pain stopping doctor could not preform the operation because Ernie's sugar was over 300. OUCH! So the good outcome is that we talked like two rational adults and have come up with a plan to help get things back to normal. Prayers and faith. Falling asleep. Hope some of this makes scence.

It has been the month from hell. I'll go into that at another time , or later. The last time I saw a scale was 23 July. At that time I weighed less than I can remember weighing in decades . 121.5 kg or 267.86 lbs. I ordered a scale last night so I will know soon. Meanwhile, my CGM (continuous glucose meter) has tried to keep me in line. The meals here are a challenge. Breakfast tomorrow, for example: choice of egg, egg biscuit (what is that? Is it an egg on a biscuit?), bacon, and fresh fruit. How many carbs is that? If I check in here, an egg biscuit can be anywhere from 15 to 39 carbs. So I either take one unit of insulin for the biscuit , or 4. What kind of fresh fruit ? A wide range there as well.
In a restaurant you can always look up the nutritional values. If I want a sausage biscuit , for example, I can get the carbs and know how much in Carl's or mc Donalds. They may be different but I will know how much insulin I need. I have done my best but some nights I had been alerted to blood glucose that is over 200, or under 70. This is not only frustrating , but dangerous. I'm supposed to inject 15 minutes before a meal but staff here has told me I may not inject in the dining room . I was at a baby shower today with my RNS daughter and another nurse. While talking to them I calculated how much insulin I needed for the cake. They where shocked by the dining room rule. Also Katie had said she would inject me but NOT until the cake was ready to be served .This is because over injecting can be extremely dangerous, which of course is what would happens if dinner is delayed or changed. I am in a quandary as what steps to take next. I have entered today's meals as best I can but depending on which I use I could be wrong in either direction. Dinner tomorrow is "hot turkey sandwich". Please look it up and check the carbs on each listing and tell me which you think would be correct. Enough for now of that frustration. Will inform you later of some of the other fun things since the last time I wrote .

Good morning. I'm in Southern California if anyone wants to help pack up 30 years of junk. My mother, the Navy wife could move at the drop of a hat. To begin with, she was super organized. Me? Wellll . . . not so much. I spend 15 minutes trying to find out where I put my purse. My daughter-in-law, Leea came over last night and said, "While I'm here, why don't I help you get some stuff together." OMG! So for an hour or so we cleaned off and packed the things from my table in my office. Of course I think there were a few things that got tossed that I would have kept. That is also why I need help. Packrat, hoarder. As I told a friend of mine when explaining that Ern NEVER keeps a receipt, "I'm the complete opposite. I could probably dig up a receipt for a package of gum I bought 30 years ago." Not conducive to a quick move. Anyway, instead of charging right into packing this morning, we went to the Cafe for breakfast, the grocery shopping, and now procrastinating by writing this. Time for the dreaded packing. grrrrrrrrr. Have a good day all.
