BuffyBear的日记, 2012年01月31日

Is it possible that a diet tip that works for the majority of people is wrong for a minority?

I do not desire anything except coffee until at least 9 AM. Like Jozette, this morning I forced myself to eat breakfast at 6 AM, but I was still hungry at 9 (so I snacked).

OK - I get it that breakfast helps kick start ones metabolism. But, how can forcing food when you are not hungry and restricting food when you are hungry possible be beneficial? I now only have 400 available for the rest of the day.

Buffy - since we have coffee with something in it early in the morning I think that is a start already. I added some coconut oil to my mug I took along to work, about 1 tsp so, there is some fat... besides the carbs and a few proteins in almond milk. It is not that we are fasting until 9 or 9.30 am. I will see how the rest of the week is going to be and maybe go back to my old habits.

Jozette - Right - why wouldn't the cream, coconut oil, etc. act as a mechanism to jump start the metabolism?

I think a lot of things are on an individual basis. I believe the idea is to eat something every few hours to keep your blood sugar levels steady. I don't think you have to eat a full breakfast in order to do that. It may be a good idea to have just a bite or two of something along with the coffee. The sweetness and cream in your coffee in addition to the caffeine(assuming it is not decaf)may actually be curbing your appetite. Try different things and see what will work for you and not hinder your progress. Keep at it! :)

I'm with you. It would be torture--I know I tried it for years--to reverse my eating schedule when my hubby eats a large dinner. In fact he eats a moderate breakfast, small lunch and large dinner. It works for him. I've learned to work it for me by having a very small breakfast, a light to moderate lunch and a moderate dinner. Even then I often want something light after dinner too. I know most information says to not after dinner, but we eat dinner around 6-7pm and go to bed at 10-11. That's 4 or more hours and if I don't have something small then I go to bed hungry. I really hate being hungry.

Hey Buffy..I think what works for you is best..I can't eat first thing in the morning either..I have to agree with DLynneGarner..we eat pretty much the same here in our house hold..I hate going to bed hungry too.. So I incorporate a snack at night...Hope this helps...(smiling)...:O)

Buffy, I am a big proponent of doing what works best for YOUR body. If that means you don't eat until 9, there is nothing wrong with that. You are getting calories with your coffee, so the metabolism jump start shouldn't be a problem, to my way of thinking! Sometimes I eat as soon as I get up, other days not until 2 or 3 hours after I wake. It depends on whether I am hungry or not. I think you are doing just fine! :)

Thanks everyone for the opinion. Makes it a lot easier to go back to the routine and feel good about it. At least we gave it a try. I am sure Buffy agrees with me :-)

Hi Buffy, my two cents worth, if the same thing worked for everyone we wouldn't have a gazillion (not a real number LOL, just made it up) diet and weight loss books lining the bookshelves of bookstores and libraries. Do what works best for you and what feels right. You're doing great!

Thank you everybody. I need to stop doubting my common sense.

Buffy just keep doing what works best for you, we are all different, and everything works differently for each of us, you are doing a great job :)

I also have trouble eating in the early morning. An omelet may be a good choice instead once in a while. I tend to have a light lunch. I find many, many people who have a big breakfast also splurge on the other meals and it just defeats the purpose, and most are going way over any reasonable calorie or carb restriction. What may be best for you - is a light breakfast so you have enough calories leftover so you can eat in the evening and not feel like you're starving...

I have trouble in the morning as well, really not hungry would much rather eat later in the day and I like others like to have something to eat before I go to bed can't stand being hungry going to bed.....Do what works for you Buffy....

Maybe not breakfast but a little something like a piece of bread? I hear that you're supposed to be hungry 3 hours or so after you eat, so it would be normal to be hungry at 9. Anyway, just to show how different everyone is, I'm hungriest in the mornin (9-ish) and I have to force myself to eat something anytime after 3pm.

FWIW...my "breakfast" usually occurs between 10 and 11:30. However, I also know that, for me, if I don't have something prior to that, I'll be ravenous and eat way too much. So, my "snack" of melon and a cheese stick get eaten when I get up, prior to doing my exercise. Works out fine for me that way.
