MrsTofu的日记, 2012年01月20日

Well, I've been slipping up today. I am trying to keep myself honest and accountable about it. I've recorded what I've eaten so far today to the best of my memory. Sometimes I really don't get and get frustrated by how often the simple things elude me. In general I find that I hear my inner voice commenting that I should be making better choices, and specifically here I should be able to record what I eat, but I don't. :(

I try to add things either before I eat them, or soon after, or I'd forget. I just love the days when I haven't eaten as much as I thought and have room for a treat. Keep true to yourself and get it all recorded no matter what, you'll be glad you did XX

Please don't fret....you are human, or at least I hope so lol. We are not machines. We have emotions, hunger, boredom, and love food. Slip ups will happen but instead of getting upset with yourself and looking at what you ate as a failure, try to look at things a little differently: How were you feeling when you made a "poor" choice?; were you bored, hungry, tired, feeling down or stuck? What situation were you in when you made a choice you would otherwise have not made? How did you feel just before you put that food in your mouth, as you were chewing it, and immediately after? When we start viewing ourselves from the outside and look at the feelings we associate with food (healthy or unhealthy), we can get a better sense of the decisions we make. So, instead of coming down on yourself at the end result, look at the reasons that caused that result to happen in the first place and then have a short but meaningful conversation with yourself reminding yourself of your goals, your amazingness, and your beauty as a human being. As a side note, I use the food diary to pre-plan all my meals and snacks. This helps be stay on track and accountable to myself.

I would suggest planning in advance rather than adding things you eat them. During the week I plan everything the night before or in the morning which generally keeps me on track. On the weekends, when I tend to play it by ear, I'll find that I often get myself into a hole where I've eaten nearly all the calories I wanted to that day and still haven't had dinner! Or I'll realize that I've had next to nothing in protein or fiber. Either way, it's not an ideal situation.

I have to agree with those who say plan and record it first - I learnt that lesson yesterday - "log first, eat later". In my short time as a member here it seems to me that daily meal planning in advance is one of the tools of the most successful dieters on fat secret.

Thank you all. I guess hearing that helps, though I feel I should already know this by now- not just academically, but practically as well. And Koffeebean, thanks for the laugh! Last I checked I wasn't cylon or android or a podperson, etc., so I just have to find a way to come to terms with being human. :P
