Reality check. I embarrassed to tell you that my "official" leptin reset day was October 24th and I weighed in at 211 lbs. that morning. I had started earlier but took a little trip to see my girlfriend & most definitely did not stay Paleo friendly. The beginning of my third week is tomorrow. The first week (Monday to Monday) I lost 6.4 lbs. The second week (again Monday to Monday) I gained .8 lbs. Who knows what my weigh in will be tomorrow as my weight seems to vary a lot from day to day. If however I use today's weigh-in to guesstimate ... it would say I have lost 2.6 lbs this week, for a grand total over three weeks of 8.2 lbs. Obviously I need to quit complaining. Somehow I am not thinking straight. I am taking the day by day and not seeing the overall picture. I think because I started to re-focus in August and I haven't seen any real progress since then I have deluded myself into believing that my body is stuck. I've had a lot of "false" starts in that time. So ... it isn't surprising that I haven't seen a lot of "progress."

I was writing this as a comment to my journal today and it got so long I decided to just put it in a new journal entry. LOL!!!

So ... bottom line I need to get a grip on reality and track myself over a period of time ... remembering that I ALWAYS have fluctuations and those fluctuations don't necessarily mean a damn thing!!!

So ... I will continue with this approach until Thanksgiving which will be my FIRST "indulgence" day. By Thanksgiving I will decide if I want to give the "indulgence day" approach a whirl. I will track my weekly weight loss and look at it frequently. I will breathe in and out and remember that I am a beautiful, smart, capable, fun woman ... and I will indeed see 180 and perhaps below once again!!!

I'm glad you caqme to this conclusion, I wanted to mention that you did lose weight and actually a significant amount since you've been on that plan. The indulgence diet, if I understand is another name for spike diet or zig-zag diet... If you can handle the back to normal after the indulgence day, then it might work too! The most important to me is, on the day you increase your intake, stick to the foods that won't make you "sick" and no matter what stay away from sugar. It's a very personal opinion, and I'm only saying this because I find it so hard to get back to normal when I eat sugar one day. But of course we are all different and you might have no problem dealing with it!

Anne I think you are wise in your counsel. And, yes ... I think it is also called the spike or zig-zag diet. The key would be of course if I could handle the cravings after the indulgence day and I think you are right, it would still be wise to stay away from the foods that seem to trigger my cravings ... and sugar would most definitely be one of those things I need to be very, very, very careful about. How silly am I? Today I just felt like I needed to look at things concretely ... in black and white ... and I guess I needed it more than I realized. Good grief I knew I was being impatient but not THAT impatient!!! Once I get a taste of that white death (sugar=heroin to me) I want more. Sometimes I can do a little taste, especially if it is wrapped up in a nice dark chocolate ... but things like pastries? Oh no ... that would be hard. I'm going to eat what I want on Thanksgiving ... turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and dressing. I'm not going to be "low-carb" that day ... but I have to commit to getting right back on the low-carb bandwagon the next day. At least I'll have leftover turkey to munch on!!! I can't believe you didn't call me out on my nuttiness earlier!! Thank you for being a good friend ... always listening to me and always supportive!! I'm sticking with what I've been doing until November 24th!!

Zig Zag, Spike, Indulgence, they're all variations of the same philosophy, just like weight loss in all shapes are variations of the same thing - consume less than you burn. What I did to develop Indulgence Diet was to take all the things that I know, see, read, hear that WORKS, and put it all into the boiling pot and take out something that is easy to do, and that still works. It's all about being able to lose weight over a long LONG period of time without going crazy. Losing weight has to be fun, easy and accomplishable. Indulgence Diet and Thanksgiving goes GREAT together. What I plan to do is cancel my Indulgence Day on the Saturday (when I normally have min) before AND after Thanksgiving, and just have one on Thanksgiving instead. I choose to do just one, as I will not want to move it and mess up another one by having two of them too close to each other. I'm not sure if it makes any real difference, but it matters to me to see a new low weigh-in, and this will not happen with two Indulgence Days in one week. My approach to Thanksgiving itself will be to eat anything and everything that I want, but still record ALL the food I eat as I go. This means bring my cell phone (with the FS app) to the table along with my digital scale. Yes, it's tedious, but it keeps me in a short leash. I can eat what I want, but I also know that once I see the calories pile up in the food calender, I will think twice about going too nute. :)

Hi Carol, caught up on your last few days of journal entry. Glad the weight is going down even though not as fast as you would like. I do smile at your journal entries, the way you figure things out as you write. You always get there in the end. I hope Grumpy Gertrude is in recess today and that you have a fabulous Monday. Can't believe its here so soon.!

Hi Carol! Monday is here already. I am so behind. What is the indulgent diet. I definitely have been indulging. lol It looks like you have been coming along nicely eventhough you have not been kind to yourself but I can understand I am the same way. Sometimes it's just too hard to be kind. We are just too critical. We'll get better. Hope you have a great Monday and hope I can get back to read today's journal.
