I came across an interesting discussion about potatoes and how they are used by people to lose weight.
Most people know potatoes to have the reputation of being evil if you want to lose weight due to them being high in carbs BUT research has shown that how you cook them is key to how they benefit you due to them containing something called "Resistant Starch". Google "Resistant Starch" to learn more about it and how it aids weight loss.
Basically if you boil potatoes then cool them down by refrigerating them overnight and then eat them cold(yes don't reheat them) then they end up containing a good amount of "Resistant Starch" compared to cooking them or frying them. I read that roasting them then refrigerating them is the best option but for my own taste preferences I prefer boiling them because I can make an awesome potato salad by adding some mayo to them and roasted then refrigerated potatoes just tastes horrible to me.
People have gone on a 3 day nothing-but-potatoes eating plan and lost weight. They call it The Potato Hack.
I saw a list online and raw rolled oats contained the most "Resistant Starch" from all the foods listed.
So on Sunday I consumed over 600g of boiled potato as a potato salad side dish and 50g of raw rolled oats in my yoghurt and fruit bowl.
I'm not sure if I should have tried this sort of experimenting when I got a goal with a timeframe but I love experimenting so if I don't break the 100kg mark by my bday in April then I'll just give it another week or two to get there :)
I hope this info helps some of you :)
