Journal Entry - August 1, 2024

I’ve been reflecting a lot lately about my health journey. For too long, I’ve neglected healthy eating, and it’s caught up with me. My body has reached a point where I’m now wearing size 42/18 and 44/20 South African sizes, and it’s affecting every aspect of my life. Simple tasks like bathing feel laborious, as if I’ve just climbed a few flights of stairs. My gym clothes are tight and uncomfortable, cleaning the house has become a struggle, and even playing tug-of-war with my dog is challenging. My clothes no longer fit confidently, and it's disheartening.

But I’ve decided to make a change. I’ve committed to a new routine starting Monday, just a few days ago. I've eliminated sugar, coffee, and limited myself to one slice of bread with an egg in the morning. My second meal is only when I’m truly hungry—typically lunch—and I’ve included a green tea and some fruit before 8 pm. I’m focused on never overeating again and have decided to cut out alcohol for now, even though I only drank once a month.

I’m encouraging myself throughout the day, staying positive, and reminding myself that this is a journey worth fighting for. It’s not easy, but I’m committed to making this work. I know I can do it and am determined to get back to feeling like myself again. I will make it.

ditto - you said everything i wanted to say, except I cried. But today I have started- no sugar, alcohol and limited coffee. 3 days no carbs then 1 carb and back to no carbs for 21 days. exercise 5 days a week- 2 with trainer- 30mim, 3 on my own or classes plus min 5000 steps daily. Sleep min 8hours a night. taking 10min movement breaks between work activities. Time limited job, kids, home, dogs etc. so exercise time limited 30-45min. Goal 5kgs 21 days. Then ease up to 2.5kg for next 3 months. Will be watching your progress and rooting for you! Much lovexxx

You can do it! I started in Feb and was wearing the same size as you. I've lost 18kg in 6 months and feeling so much better! Just make sure you aren't eating too little or your body is going to go into starvation mode. I have crash dieted so many times before but it's not sustainable and you end up picking up all the weight again. Good luck! You can do it!

I was there too and the best advice I can give you it's your journey...ignore the ppl around you with negative comments. This journey is yours change your bad eating habits slowly you will be amazed how strong you can get. I have lost 30kg with no meds no shakes or protein powders...I don't cut carbs...I eat 3 meals a day and still have chocolate but 4 blocks dark choc is my limit.I also have ready to go frozen meals in my freezer helps me a lot on the days I don't feel like cooking. also I have cooked chicken fillets and salad in fridge for the days I'm hungry or just want to eat.wish you all the success. if you need to chat my WhatsApp no 081-3421479

Good for you for choosing you! This is what it comes down to...that point where you feel like you've hit rock bottom and the only way out is up. We're rooting for you sis'. Congratulations on making yourself a priority.

So amazed to run into someone who feels just like me… I weigh 105kg, wear size 42, I started my journey on Wednesday and my wooord!!! I ask myself how did I even get here … I’m rooting for us… we can do this!!

I’m there with you. I’ve also started focusing on my health and therefore my weight from 1 August. It feels like an enormous task for me. 90kg at present and I wear a size 38. I want to shed 10kg over a slow and steady period because my son is getting married in March next year and I just cannot bear to see another photograph of myself looking the way that I currently do. One day at a time is now my mantra! I have to do this!
