I wonder sometimes when I will learn. You've heard of not throwing your pearls before swine? My niece, who is all of 21 years old, newly married, just moved out of her parents' home with her husband and my grand nephew (18 months old) in the past month after mooching off of them for a couple of years. She's on an internet site complaining about how her son won't "listen" to her and why did the "terrible two's" have to come so early. So ... silly me ... foolish me ... I post to her. I work with families with children ages birth to three ... I am a family therapist ... it is what I do ... I am good at what I do!! I understand kids, families, and especially the birth to three crowd. Holy smokes that was stupid of me!! She responds not so kindly ... that no one is going to tell her how to raise "MY" child ... blah, blah, blah ... that's after complaining about being "stuck alone with him for 8-16 hours a day" and all he needs to do is "listen." Uh ... DUH ... he is 18 months old ... not exactly going to leave her alone to play on the internet all day. Sorry. Just venting. I know better. I deleted my "helpful" input ... I won't respond again to her posts ... at least once a year I make this mistake. I bet my brother is very happy about her moving out. UGH

oh gee she sounds like fun. lol I wondered what you did for a living, thats pretty cool. Too bad your niece doesn't want good advice. I'd take it in a heartbeat :D its best left alone, you are wise to move along and vent elsewhere. Don't let that bother you too much.

You are right Cindy. My niece is a spoiled rotten brat. I just feel sorry for my grandnephew ... poor little guy. You should have seen their wedding in July. My little nephew was pretty much left to his own devices all day ... no nap (and he was only 14 months old then). My niece was outside taking pictures. My nephew pretty much had not seen his mommy all day. So, one of her "friends" brought the little guy out to see her. She said "I know he wants me but I don't want him. I can't possibly have him for at least another twenty minutes." I almost died!!!! And she is related to me? Had that been my wedding my son would have been in my arms the whole time!! Guess you can pick your friends but not your family!! Oh well ... I have bigger fish to fry!! LOL!!

aw. I almost called her a brat too, but I held back. I can tell, idk what it takes for a mother to change that view, that is so sad. And yeah, I have had that 'can't pick you family' moment lol

When it comes to family, I've learned to just leave it alone. I mean, god forbid I say anything to my sister who lets her 14 year old son sleep with her part of the night because hes a child a divorce, and needs her, blah blah blah. My kids are 3 & 4 and they sleep in their own beds!!

{{{{hugs}}} been there! Oh my gosh, all too often! The trouble is she is a child herself. She is not mature enough to be a mother by the sound of things. It is unfortunate but I see it all too often-young mothers who think children are dolls that you can put on a shelf and take down to play with for a time and then put back. It does not work that way at all. I am not saying all young mothers do this but there are a very large number that do. I am sorry she is such a defensive immature person and could not take your advice for what it was.

absolutely ... I am vowing to "leave it alone" ... and am grateful she is not MY DAUGHTER!!! LOL!!! Silly for me to let this bother me ... so glad she lives a couple of states away!!
