Having a super hard time lately. I'm back to restricting (which isn't really restricting), but because of December, I feel completely miserable. Honestly, it isn't too drastic of a change of what I was eating before the holidays. I'm still eating my mason jar salads every day, and my dinners now are just more focused on lean protein and veggies and smaller portion sizes. The past few days I have been RAVENOUS. To the point of where its almost painful. Personally, I hope its because of my TOM, because usually my hunger levels spike, but I also think it might be a mix of carb/sugar withdrawal as well. I am not a happy camper. It might also be a little bit mental too. I'm being a lot more restrictive of what I can and cant eat. Done with sweets, fatty foods, and eating out (for the most part). My body just isn't happy with me because all it wants is Panera and I am not giving in. At least not until I get back on track and gain a bit of self control.

Last night I worked out with my trainer friend, and we had a conversation that we have never had before, and it was kind of discouraging. She also logs her food (not on here), and restricts her eating for the most part. She also works out a lot but really enjoys the working out part. Well she started off the conversation talking about how she hates logging her food and she feels it controls her in a way and how she doesn't want to do it anymore, and if its even worth doing and if its sustainable. This is where my brain starts spinning, and I start thinking of my own journey. Of course I don't know what her food looks like. She could be restricting a lot, I have no idea. Maybe for her its not sustainable. But I thought to myself, if she cant do it and doesn't think its worth it, is it worth it for me? Am I losing this weight and making myself healthy just to fall off the wagon in a few years and get fat again in the future? What even happens when I reach my goal weight? Will I even be happy? Will I ever be happy with my weight or how I look? Will maintenance at my goal weight be something I can do for the rest of my life? I still have 20-30 pounds to go, and I am feeling incredibly frustrated. Just wondering if I'm making the right choice. Obviously I am, and I made my fiance give me one of his famous pep talks telling me that it is completely worth it and I am on the right track. I just wish I could be done finally. I have been feeling reallllllly good about myself the past few months. Incredibly proud of my journey. 2015 is supposed to be my year and I am supposed to accomplish so much, but I'm only 8 days in and feeling stuck, and lost all my confidence. Not a fun feeling.

Sorry for the long rant, I hope everyone is having a good week!

what works for one person doesn't work for everyone. when I wanted to get to a goal, I logged everything - including drinks. once I hit my goal... I log occasionally if im curious to how my habits are. its been over 4 months of me not logging everything everyday and im still maintaining and when I do put a day in I see I actually have some spare left. once you learn what works and what doesn't, the repetition will teach you. you will know where the hairy scary carbs are and what portions you should or shouldn't have. be patient. the greatest part of logging is realizing if you had half of a bun with your burger rather than the whole.. you can sneak in a couple fries. You learn balance . it takes time and patience. if you are ravenous try adding more protein. I find a boiled egg can keep me feeling full .. sometimes I grab a string cheese... you learn what works for your body. stick to it. none of us do this the same.

Hi there. I read your journal post here and decided to just go look at a random day of your food log... while you are doing impressively well, and I applaud what you have achieved, I do have some advice based on my own personal experience. Fats are not necessarily what make you fat. There are healthy fats you need from nuts, seeds, oils and foods such as avocados. If you don't give your body fat to burn, it won't instinctively turn to your stored body fat for energy. Your bodies first impulse is to seek out sugar basically. If you aren't giving it sugar (read labels though... just because you aren't the one pouring white, refined sugar in doesn't mean it isn't there), it will actually start looking in your muscle tissue for what it wants to burn. From the sounds of it you are already tackling this, so kudos! BUT if you try to starve yourself thin (your calorie intake seems below what I have found to be healthy from all of my experimenting, try to eat 1800-2000 and burn 2200-2500 a day), your body will not necessarily burn fat, it will freak out and try to store it, AND at the same time it will cannibalize your muscles. What I would recommend is actually bringing healthy fats and protein into the mix, up your daily calorie intake AND up your exercise so you maintain a deficit while giving your body more fuel. You will retrain your body to look at fat as fuel by feeding it healthy fats. Some foods I recommend: avocado, boiled eggs (no salt), low fat cottage cheese, string cheese, quinoa, raw veggies with guacamole/avocado dip. Best of luck and hang in there! A set back isn't the end of the road, but perhaps it is a good chance to re-evaluate if what you're doing is still working for you.

Hey Stephanie, don't let these doubts make you question if it's something you really want. If you didn't really want it, I don't think you would have made it as far as you have. I also don't think you'd be on here talking to us about it. Sometimes even though it's hard, you just have to push through and know that the end result is worth the struggle. If you begin making small changes to your nutrition and habits now, there won't be a wagon to fall off of later. It will just be you and your lifestyle instead of a fad or a phase. You've done awesome so far. Don't give up now. :)

We should all become so wise that we can intuitively eat a prefect amount of food for the day. ROTHLMAO :) Today this moment is the focus.

hi Stephanie, chin up. I know exactly how you feel. I think I had been feeling the same way, on and off, for about 2 years now. I've had periods of intense motivation and other times when I have wondered what is the point of it all if when I reach my goal I will probably lose my steam. I think it is all part of the human experience and we are probably at our best when we have something we are working towards. I suppose that is why maintenance is so challenging, but the last time I reached my goal I was actually pleasantly surprised to maintain it for about 5 years (and then I had a wrench thrown in when I got pregnant again :-). But here I am, back and determined and knowing that for right now my focus is back and I do really want to get to that place again. Don't let discouraging thoughts of what may be in some uncertain future steal the joy of your present gains. Today you want it and you are working towards achieving your goals. Don't worry about how you might feel tomorrow b/c you might surprise even yourself.

I think you need to find what works for you. I was close to my goal weight a couple years ago but stopped watching what I ate and gained a lot of it back. I am on this site counting calories. Last time I lost my weight it was keeping track, calories in and out. When you hit your goal weight, you can get away with not counting but if your jeans start to feel tight look at what your doing. Don't do what I did and buy a bigger size. We all struggle with this that is why we are here.

Actually I personally believe tracking is the only way to go doesn't really matter which "diet" a person is on... I feel like I have MORE control when I track everything the same as I keep a close watch on my bank accounts and portfolio that to me is sound business sense.. that is how I look at tracking. Tell those sneaky self defeating thoughts to go away and you will do this...You wonder if you can do this long term.. Yes I honestly believe where people get into trouble myself included is when we tell ourselves this is a diet to get to goal and somewhere in the back of our minds we can go back to the way of life of before. That simply isn't true... We have to change our way of eating and our lifestyle to maintain it. Hang in there you can do it..

I agree with Jaimie. I think you might need a little more fat in your diet. Fat releases energy slowly so it keeps you filled. Here are some of the healthy fats I am currently consuming: Olive oil, almonds, avocado, peanut butter
