Good Afternoon, FS Warriors! Well, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I'm talking about our experience Saturday at the Cirque D'or show. First off, the Cirque D'or is not a Cirque Du Soleil show. Bummer. The Cirque D'or is the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobatic team show. I think they are trying to (and succeeding at) capitalizing on the overwhelming acceptance of the "Cirque" shows by including "Cirque" in their title. They are not even close to being in that league. If I had taken the time to look up the reviews of previous attendees, I would not have bought the tickets. The people on both sides of us, in the theater, all agreed that we had been duped, and nobody would have paid the $50 a ticket to see the shoe. Don't get me wrong, the acrobats did some impossible gymnastic moves on occasion, but almost every act went about 10 minutes past the boredom threshold.

To top it off, or should I say, to enhance my experience, I came down with a case of food poisoning ten minutes after taking our seats in the theater. With no center aisle, and being center stage, with 30 people to my left, and 30 to my right, I was filled with apprehension from the beginning. We had just eaten at an Oriental Buffet prior to coming to the theater. After being seated, my stomach began to roll and cramp up. All I could think of was not being able to make it across all the people before spreading the cheer. Fortunately, the affliction never developed into diarhea, but the feeling was ever present. A quick search of the internet with my cell phone revealed that there would be an intermission somewhere mid-stream. It was a grueling hour. I was ever grateful for announcement of Intermission, and made my way to a bathroom where I relieved some of the symptoms that enabled me to make it through another endearing encounter of stomach acrobatics that seemed to synch with the performers on stage. Made it home uneventfully, but with churning and burning, and multiple visits to the john.

Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, the feeling was somewhat subsided the next morning, but still present. I was afraid to work out for fear of depleting what energy I had left to fight the illness. A little wine in the afternoon helped alleviate the symptoms, and as you may have surmised by now, I survived. I felt as if I was starving all day, and kept feeding myself with whatever was handy that I didn't think would aggravate my stomach even more. Funny, I never felt nauseated - just painful cramps. I'm sure it wasn't TOM.

Got up this morning at 3:45, and did my run/walk program. No damage done, just one day behind schedule. Looks like I'll live. I was down a pound and a half this morning. I don't know whether it was just time, or because of multiple trips to the bathroom on Saturday. In any case, I'll take it. Well, that's probably way more information than most of you were wanting to hear. I don't know how anyone can enter the food they ate at an Oriental Buffet; I will probably just forget this weekend's diet calendar. Just suffice it to say that I deviated from the plan, and it is what it is. Well, I'm back to normal, or at least what people have come to expect as normal of me. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening. Toodles!

DK you have to be one tough bird to sit through the boring show feeling as that uncomfortable! You have my admiration. I don't know if I could have sat through it all. So, wifey must not have eaten the same food that you did. Good thing, right?? Good to know the two shows are not the same. I heard the Cirque Du Soleil was incredible to see. When they were on tour (years ago) a co-worker went to see it and couldn't say enough about it. Sorry it was such a disappointment. If it was your TOM, I am going to be co-agents with Sk1nny and we are getting you booked into Hollywood. LOL!

Bleh! Lousy meal and lousy show... I feel bad for you! I never have the nerve to buy seats center row unless it's front row for the same reason - something about being closed in from both sides just puts every 'need' I have on alert. I'd have probably had PMS, labor pains, trots, sneezing, coughing and every other kind of attack right up to water breaking or ... well you get the point. Don't tell us food poisoning takes off nearly two pounds.. we'll all be leaving the chicken out to spoil :-)

Ugh. What a bummer! I'd steer clear of all things Asian for a bit. I'm thinking it was a great cleansing! Glad you're back up to snuff!

Hi DK, so sorry about your experience with the "Cirque", what a horrible time! On reading your profile I see you have a good sense of humor, & a great outlook & plan for your lifetime eating habits. I'm amazed that you have gone through so much, & are still not only sane, but still kicking fat's butt! Wishing you all success in your (our) continuing battle with over eating.

Cirque... I've checked out the prices for tickets and saw they usually started around $100 and went up. Too bad, but I'm glad you were relatively impressed with the gymnastics. I've seen the Chinese troops advertised on tv. Maybe someday they'll be in your area. Or you can go to Vegas for a show.
