How sad for them to lose their child. It's such a shame. So sad to hear. It was nice of you to pay your respects. Hugs! 

Have to think, don't you? Were the parents also large? Perhaps to save face and prevent embarrassment.  

Its hard to go to a young person's funeral...I'm sure the death was of natural causes..being that over weight is hard on the heart etc...even being a little over weight is hard on the body...After I lost only 10 pounds of the 197 I weighed...helped my back a lot..so that made me want to lose more...Hope your back is better and that infection too...Hugs... Did you see that show where this young woman was over 1,000 pounds and was charged for the murder of her nephew???...she thought she was going to die so she took the blame... Come to find out her own sister did it..but her lawyer got her some help with her problem and she lost over 800 pounds....she really looks good and now is going to try and adopt her sister's kids that is in jail...:O) 

There are tons of actors, etc who have died young and partly because of weight. The singer Barry White was 58, John Candy - 43, Chris Farley -33, Elvis- 42...... Makes me think, I need to stay busy working to get the fat off.  

It was so good of you to go pay your respects -- how old was he? So sad! Xoxox 

Mom - very sad. No parent deserves to see their child die before they do. 

Classic - neither of the parents were overly large. In referring to the death not being from "natural causes" I was hurling blame at the medical community, our government, big business and all of the other usual suspects. Many still hold to outdated notions of weight loss (just eat less and exercise more) and blaming the obese person (lazy gluttonous, etc.). I know this because 5 years ago I was treated the same way and felt like there was no way out.  

Bren - I am sure the weight was the cause as well (see my comments to Classic). Just too bad no one got him the help he needed. And I had heard about the case you mentioned but didn't know the outcome. Too bad the child had to die before something was done.  

Ruth - he was only 29 years old. 

dboza - yes, I took it as a wake up call too! At my age I think I have about run out of second chances.  

Such a sad thing, no matter how you look at it. 

Hey, Buffy. Thank you so much for the buddy invite. For some reason, I thought you and I were already buddies. Hah! Go figure. Ugh, this subject is so personal for me (and I expect so many others here). Many people on here know my brother died last year at the age of 45. "Pneumonia". But what caused the pneumonia was previous kidney failure. What caused that was congestive heart failure. What caused that was his weight. I really miss that guy. I so wish I could have helped him. More than that, I feel I *should* have helped him and didn't. I went into depression and sailed up to 340, and began to wonder how they'd find me. Who would be the one? I prayed it wasn't my daughter. (Sorry. Tearing up a bit now) Anyway, I agree with you Buffy. So many people just don't understand the plight of the overweight. I can kind of see it. After all, how would they know? But too many companies make money profitting from the downtrodden. Not just the obese, but all the downtrodden, no matter who they are. It is just so reprehensible to me. Sorry... I'll try to cheer up the next one. :D 

GG - Sad is as good a word as any. 

Rob - I am so sorry to hear about your brother. You honor him by the changes you have made in your life.  

Having to echo Buffy. You are honoring him now by losing and taking control of your health. I'd be willing to bet he'd be proud of you.  

Buffy, how sad for that family but I'm sure they appreciated the people who showed up to the viewing. "They" always say that showing up is to honor the one who's passed on but also to show support for those left behind. Hope you're feeling better this week. Hugs.......
