Hi Fatsecrets, Well I am busted and disgusted. I weighted yesterday and it showed that I gained 5 pounds. I know that muscle weights more than fat but this are crazy. I have not officially started on the diet, but I have cut back drastically and working out like crazy. I hope this is not a trend. I do not want to get discourage but with weight gains like this it would be easy to get off track.

I am with you. The same thing is happening to me right now. Maybe by tracking what you are eating will help you figure out what is making you gain. I think sometimes it's the foods that we put together in one day can be a problem. That's what I'm trying to figure out for myself. Don't give up - i think we all have to figure out what works the best for us and it's done by trial and error. Don't forget to start measuring yourself if you are working out. You may be losing a ton of inches by turning the fat into muscle.

If you have been working out like crazy and your body is not used it, your muscles get little tears in them. They retain water to help repair themselves. This will cause a temporary gain on the scale. Drink more water! Don't let it put you off exercising! Exercising will help you lose fat and firm up (as well as keep your heart healthy). Plus, look at what you have been eating. Some foods are very high in sodium which makes us retain water. Plus, stress and hormones can also be a factor. Once you start the diet, I am sure you will start to see a loss. Also remember, the scale is only one way to measure weight loss. You will also lose fat and go down sizes because of the exercise. I would rather be a 150lbs and a size 4 than a 140lbs and a size 6. Good luck!

Don't give up! I felt the same way when I began working out with weights. Suzi161 is right about your muscles retaining water to heal.... it's your miraculous machine at work. It is for this reason that I don't get on the scale every week. I focus too much on the number and not how I feel or look~ which kills me everytime I've tried to lose weight. I have only lost 8 lbs according to my scale~ but I've gone down 2 pants sizes! Also.... make sure you are eating enough calories during the day~ don't decrease your intake so much that your body goes into "starvation mode". According to my friend the dietician, women should eat at least 1200cals per day to maintain weight loss, especially if they are exercising. So keep the faith and continue on! You can do this!
