Lamb123, I see that you don't log your food. I find if I log my food I tend to eat correctly. I have gotten into a habit of buying my groceries weekly now so every saturday I sit and plan my meals for the following week and use fatsecret to see the calories etc. Sometimes things creep up and I don't always eat what I had planned but then I just make sure I get back into routine the following day. It takes time so don't let this gain get to you. Let it help you be more focused.

Hi all. Thank you for the support. I have started eating breakfast which I have not done in the past. All healthy, with no sugar. Don't snack in between and lunch is usually some form of salad and/or fruit. May have a biscuit or two between lunch and supper, and supper is usually something very light or nothing at all. I have a bad habit of eating something sweet in bed whilst reading, and that is not good at all, yet I crave something sweet.

Lamb do u eat up to your RDI or exceed it? Perhaps your 1st step would be to log all food you consume for a week just to see what you are consuming in terms of daily calories. Then try eating under your RDI daily for a week and see if it makes a difference. Thereafter try adding two to three fast days of 500 calories to your week. Read up on the 5:2 Fast Diet on www.thefastdiet.co.uk - many of us have found this as a solution to sustainable weight loss.

No I don't even know what my RDI should be. Also, difficult to know what the calory intake is, as this is all new to me. Have never been on a diet before! I don't weigh my food, just know what I put on my plate, and that it is not heaped, avoid starches, and don't like most meats. Prefer chicken and sometimes steak with salads. Very little dressing. My problem is that I cannot drink water, now matter how I try. So my liquid intake is very litte.

lamb123 I know how you feel about water, I hate drinking water. I use to drink anything between 8 - 12 cups of coffee a day with 3 sugars in. What I did for every cup of coffee I had, I downed a glass of water before drinking my coffee, now 2 months later I never have more than 3 cups of coffee a day and have cut my sugar down to 2, plus I am managing to drink alot more water.

Lamb I started using FatSecret without knowing anything about calories. You get to learn very quickly. Go to your profile, change the weight to kg and height to cm. Then choose activity level as Sedantary and your goal as Weightloss and then FatSecret will work out your RDI for you and you will see it in your Food Diary. Then you just weigh food or choose portion size and FatSecret will show you the calories of each item you add as your meal. Read our Food Diaries to get an idea. It's fine to make mistakes and guess the portion size when u start and eventually you will get it more accurate. Alternatively if you don't want to count everyday you can just do fast days of maximum 500 calories on 3 non-consecutive days and see how that works out for you. There's so many ways to get to your goal but it has to be a way you are comfortable with and can sustain. Read my journal, many people have found it to be a good starting point.
