My husband and I started to take vitamins when we got married. I read about fish oil helping depression, so we started taking it. When the kids were born, we had to be more careful about our diet, so we added salad to dinner. Fast forward to when my son came home on break from college, he complained that we should not be frying our foods! When I became diabetic, I slowly changed my diet to healthy foods and more veggies, less meat. My oatmeal and apple a day, along with increased fiber from veggies, nuts, seeds, and blueberries (watermelon in season) helped lower my cholesterol. I ran out of green tea, but I'm going to get some more. I'm not sure if that thing about green tea washing fat out of your body is true. Green tea is one of the anti-inflammatory foods that reduces pain in the body and makes you feel healthier, which means you can deal with stress better. Good luck, everyone!

PS: New members, walking only three days a week will maintain the weight you are now. So you must eat healthy and walk every day to lose weight. Keep moving!

What is your cholesterol now and how much has it come down?

I complain to my parent's about frying food too haha! It disgusts me to see wonderful food being thrown into pure fat, just ruins all the goodness of it. I make my own meals sometimes because of how much I hate the look of fried food.

My cholesterol (range <200 MG/DL) April 2013 was 174, May 2014 is 128. My HDL (range <40 MG/DL) April 2013 was 39, May 2014 is still 39. My LDL (range <100 MG/DL) April 2013 was 118, May 2014 is 66. Now that I am not diabetic and got off the diabetic pills, my cholesterol does not have to be as strict as it was before. I'm good!

Great job getting that LDL down. 66 is great. HDL is SO hard to raise!! Mine has been low for 2 years. I exercise as much as I can handle which is supposed to raise it, but it hasn't been so. With a total cholesterol of 89 and an LDL of like 48, I am happy with it.

Wow! Eddie, your cholesterol is awesome. I cut my chicken down to 1 ounce a week. I might as well stop eating it. We'll see. I have my cholesterol checked again in November. Hope it is good. :)

I stopped eating pork in college and I eat lamb maybe once a year, if I am at someone's home and there is no other choice. Beef 3 or 4 times a year? In restaurants I might choose fish and veggies. I try to eat fish two times a week. Usually 3-4 ounces of tilapia or a small serving of tuna salad. :blush:

Except for the fish, I am almost a vegetarian. Must buy that green tea!

I think I was in my 20's when I realized food could be cooked and not fried... my grandmother fried everything. Weird.

Bella, my family fried all vegetables separately in a skillet and removed them to a pot or baking dish. Then fried the tomato paste in the remaining oil and poured the fried tomato paste over the fried vegetables, covered and let it simmer on the stove or baked it in the oven until it was time to eat. Gross!

The crock pot exists for lazy people like me who don't want to wash the pan everytime we fry something! Plus I like to use the word sautee, makes it sound so much better.

I think you're doing great and I will try the green tea and hopefully it will help me with pain as I can no longer take IB Proven for relief.

It's great that you're eating better. I'm happy to hear those things about green tea, because I drink it daily. I also take fish oil supplements. It helps in many other ways too, like improved eyesight, heart health, and the thyroid (for people with a slow thyroid). I'm sure there are other things it helps with too.
