I've thought of changing my name (on F.S.) since it is so silly and I'm definitely not snow white. When my daughter was in Jr. High, maybe around 13, she asked me to give answers to a questionnaire in a magazine like Cosmopolitan or some such. It was on sex, and at her age there was no way I was going to answer honestly. She said I “scored” Snowwhite which meant I really didn't know anything (dumb). I still equate it with scoring dumb, but maybe it doesn't sound that way to others. Does this name suggest that I think I am pure, which I most certainly do not? Let's see, what describes me best? Struggler? I used to say they could put on my grave: “She Tried”. There will be no grave, my body is being donated for science, hoping it will be of some use. I've lived an almost useless life.

SnowWhite, I know that you've been been beaten down for so long in your domestic situation that you feel like you ARE the way you've been treated. But, I also know that you are a Christian; and, as Ethel Waters once said, "God don't make no junk!" If you WANT to change your name, that's up to you; and, if you ARE going to do it, now would be a good time, since you only joined FS last month. You're making friends so fast here, that it would be really confusing to us to have you switch "User Names" way down the road. I think you MIGHT lose all of your data, because you might have to create a completely separate account and discontinue this one. Not sure on that. If you DO create a new user name, PLEASE don't make it anything else that has a negative connotation. "Struggler" and "SheTried" are definitely out of the question! Remember, you are being conformed to the image of Christ. Perhaps you could think of something that is positive, encouraging, self-confident (and, NO, it is not prideful to have self-confidence!) As to having lived a "useless life," I don't know you well enough to know what you MEAN by that, but I DO know you well enough to know that it can't be true! You are a very sweet, humble, caring, nurturing lady and are trying your best to be all that God intended you to be. Name change or no name change, be the best YOU you can be. That's all God expects from us. Maybe there's a user name available something like, "MyBestME"???

You created a person, you've raised that child, and you think you've lived an almost useless life? That's not right. It's a fine screen name with a cute backstory about your daughter. And Snow White is a lovely, caring woman who goes through very hard times but then finds happiness. Nothing wrong with the name.
