I am now being joined in my morning jog-walks with my neighbor who is trying to drop some vacation weight. We hit the sidewalks and move to the park to do the exercise trail and all its stations, throwing in some jumping jacks for fun. We finished up in her driveway by hula-hooping(!) with her daughter's hoops. I don't know if this burns any serious calories, but it's silly and made us laugh.
Lunch, my only meal of the day, has been involving more fruit than is probably wise, given my sweet tooth. But it's strawberry season and my garden is just bursting with berries! The difference between now and last year is that I no longer dip them in whipped cream or roll them in sugar. Because I haven't eaten sweets in a spell, the fruit tastes sweeter plain than I remember it. Makes me wonder how many other fruits I've "ruined" by trying to improve them with extra sugar.

Independence day went smoothly. I ate half a burger with lots of lettuce and tomato and skipped dessert. Harder to resist was the cooler packed with ice and frosty bottles of beer. I confess to having 2, but this was only because I threw them both out after drinking half the bottle, since I can't handle warm beer in the bottom half. So I guess that equaled only one full beer.
Weight loss is slowing down now, which I expected. I would really like to fit into a swimsuit without embarrassment by year's end. My prize for attaining my goal weight of 105 lbs. is a trip to Hawaii with my DH. The good news is that he's been hitting the gym and pumping iron because he doesn't want to look flabby standing next to me on the beach. So now we're in this together!

Last night was my niece's birthday, or my first challenge: birthday cake. Notice that I did not call it a Cheat Day, nor convince myself that I deserved sweets because I've lost weight this week (I in fact deserve to lose MORE weight by not giving in to temptation). I did not eat a single bite, but rather followed a suggestion from Jenibeann and offered to help pass out plates of it to everyone. No one noticed that I didn't have a slice. The diversion tactic worked!

I simply drank a cup of coffee and socialized with everyone like I had already had a piece of cake. This was so successful that I plan on using it every party that involves dessert (like weddings or retirement parties).

My first diet challenge will be coming up this weekend - my niece's birthday. This means cake. Is it poor form to turn down birthday cake? Should I accept a slice but then pitch it into the garbage when no one is looking? Cut it up to make it look a little messy, as if I'd had a couple of bites? Set it down on a table and walk off in search of a drink, and "forget" it?
I will not eat even one bite, because it is crack for me, and one bite will become 2 whole pieces before I can yell "Help!!!"
Suggestions, anyone?

A week down, and I am slowly adapting to the no-sweets WOE. Today I am okay with it, but from what I read, many members here have cheat days where they appear to undo all the progress they made by abstaining from "bad" foods all week. I simply could not endure having to quit sweets over and over again.
Did my 5 miles this morning with a little over a quarter spent jogging as opposed to walking. It gets easier each day, which is good because it takes quite a bit of time to simply walk the whole thing. After work I am going to my first Pilates class, which I have high hopes for. My waistline cries to be shrunken, and coworkers all have flat stomachs from this class (and from barely eating anything beyond coffee and a small salad, which they never finish).
Lunch is just thawed, pre-cooked tail-on shrimp and half of an avocado (was running late this morning and did not have time to prepare a proper meal).
