I have a birthday coming up this weekend. Turning 59 years old, which just doesn't seem possible. I am pretty sure I am still in my 20's!! But I am disappointed, because last year at this time I was so positive that I would be nearly at my goal weight. I had lost some weight the last 2 years. Unfortunately, all I have done is gain weight this year - to the point where I am at the place I was this time last year, more or less. Sigh. So I signed up for a new program - I'm sure it is just a gimmick - it's called Metabolic Renewal and is supposedly a workout and lifestyle program for women based on where they are at as far as menopause goes or other specifically female hormonal times. Since I had a hysterectomy at age 24 due to ovarian cancer, I have had decades with less female hormones than is "normal", but in my 50s for sure it has become harder to lose and keep off the excess weight. Anyway, I signed up for this program just as a way to get me motivated. I started this week - the workouts include a 5 minute warm up followed by 15 minutes of high intensity workout, and then the doctor who designed it wants you to go for a walk. He says an hour, but sorry, I just don't have that kind of time - so I am doing 30 minutes. The main focus is lowering stress as a lifestyle change as he says women are more stress-sensitive than men. Probably true. And the eating program is supposed to be 3 meals/1 snack (I will have 2 snacks most likely) with a focus on 2 meals being just protein and vegetables and 1 meal being protein, vegetables and whole grain carbs - and of course, portion control. For some reason, starting something new will help motivate me (I apparently get bored with the same thing over and over when it comes to eating and exercise). Wish me luck! I really need some good motivation to help me lose the weight I have regained.
