I am 49, mom to 4 kiddos at home, bonus mom (stepmom) to one more (who is all grown up & married), and a grandma to two precious grandsons! I've had weight trouble, oh, ever since I gave birth to my second child (about 15 years ago). The heaviest I have ever been was probably around 217. I hovered around 200 until around April of '14. I have hypothyroidism, am insulin-resistant, pre-diabetic, and am on blood pressure medicine. I have slowly taken some of the weight off over the last couple of years, and am finally starting to be able to get into some clothes that were shoved into the back of my closet. IDEALLY, it would be great to lose another 15 pounds and get down to my first-got-married weight of around 130. (That might not be realistic, but it sure would be great!) What I'm doing: basically, I'm restricting calories, shooting for 1400 per day. But because of my insulin resistance, I'm very careful to have protein and fat and try to stay away from highly processed/refined sugar/carbs/bread. With calorie restriction, I find that I have to stay away from those things anyway, because they are usually very high in calories. On Sundays, I eat whatever I want and do not pay attention to counting calories or measuring or restricting any particular kind of food. It's my freebie day. Not a cheat day. Just a "chill," enjoy whatever I want day.
