Well, you guys got me all excited and I took my running outside this morning. It was 25F outside. It was too cool to stand in one place as I waited for my gps to align itself, so I took off anyway; it could catch up when it could. Don't know if I overdid the clothing thing or not; wore a polyester skull cap, one of those techy polyester shirts that wick the sweat away, nylon running pants, and a nylon running jacket (the type with the thin polyester shell and netting liner to wick the sweat). The only reason that I wear the jacket is, at this point in my training, I'm a little worried about running too far outside my capability to run back. Anyway, I probably could have done without it; I was sweating pretty good when I walked back in the door. I had forgotten how hilly my little town is. In San Francisco, they would probably call them bumps, but they gave me a workout. I probably could have benefitted from setting the treadmill incline at 1%. But, just like I remembered, I actually ran about 1 mph faster for the 30 minutes outside - maybe to keep cool, or maybe it's just because I can propel myself on the asphalt, whereas on the treadmill, you are constrained by the programmed speed of the belt. In any case, I did it, I feel good, and I think I even have a little lactic acid thing going on in my quads. Tomorrow is a walk day, so I'll stay inside on the treadmill; I don't generate enough heat quickly enough when I'm walking, to take it outside. I took Wednesdays and Thursdays off for the next three weeks to use up the remainder of my vacation time, so here I am spending my post-run hour with my FS friends.
