jenniferlshortt的日记, 2011年10月4日

Why do people have to try and force food on you when you say no thank you? I can't understand it. I don't want to have to explain every time that I'm doing this diet and there are certain foods I can't get. I think I'm lucky to have survived a dinner out at someone's house.

Stop explaining it. Just say no over and over and over. They will quit asking eventually. Happened to me constantly at the beginning, after a few months of no's they stopped asking me.

I agree. I really dread going to people's houses, because they take it personal that I don't sample everything they are offering. It makes a fun evening out feel like a chore!

I wrote in my journal yesterday: Going to friends for dinner this afternoon. I asked if it would be alright for me to bring some cauliflower rice, sf coleslaw and sf Jell-O Gelatin. It was fine with them. They are having salmon, so all will be well. :)..............Today: Turned out quite well. I had enough food to let them actually share some of it. I have learned not to give in when people push. It really works, and they do get the message and stop trying to have you eat what's bad for you. Just like Icymaiden said: Just say no. You can do it!

My MIL does it to me all the time (and she lives with me!) She knows that I am eating better and trying to get my weight down but when she snacks she wants someone to snack with her. Her reasoning is hilarious sometimes too. Animal crackers? "120 calories for 16 crackers! That's practically nothing!" Sugar free cake? "The calories don't turn to fat because it's sugarfree!"... oy

The problem with these people is the "you used to like/love it" factor. So they see you denying yourself whatever they are offering as you suffering and they want to help you Not suffer. I find sometimes with the overly pushy types small white lies work wonders. "Last time I ate _____ I had terrible stomach pains for several hours and I just don't want to feel that way again". For us low carbers this becomes reality whenever we dive back into carbs (horrible bloat and cramping after eating the wrong things)

You have to make if more of a medical/health decision than "i'm not eating that right now" type of statement. Because that leds those types to continue to test you to see if you're ready to eat normally again. Your new normal will be/should be low carb. Way of Life, not diet.

I just tell people- nothing tastes as good as thin feels- that usually shuts them up!

I say it is really sweet of you to invite me but I am doing low carb and am not straying for anything, or anybody, I used to make excuses etc, but not anymore, if they can't respect me and my wishes well......but I am also very happy to take my own food I do add that......I always say I come for the company not the food.
