A bit confused about the calorie calculator on this app. It says in order to lose weight I can eat 1600 cals a day, but other online calculators say that would maintain my weight, what's up with that?? I've been eating on average around 1000 cals for about 6 weeks and lost about 5 kilos.

(I believe) that figure is the number of calories that the app calculates for a day. If you do a specific exercise, you can log it, as well. You can get either your Apple or Android phone to sync with the Fatsecret app. Mine links with Google's fitness app. Each day I press the green link icon and the Google data comes through, both as calories and steps. Apple's one does it too.

The calories consumed is synced with the Google app.

Thanks! I downloaded google fit and synced it with the app :). I had it overnight and it does think I took 80 steps in my sleep though which makes me doubt the accuracy haha. Keen to see what it thinks my calories should be.

1000 is not enough to sustain energy, nutritional value, and hormonal health. Women should not go under 1600 at any point!

I've used the fitness app and my maintenance sits around 1600 lol. I have to eat less than that to lose weight. I had been a bit aggressive about it but am around 1200 the last week. I am taking vitamins and feeling pretty o-k.

Dear Emily. This is just my opinion. Use to be App to calculate the calorie deficit for the week. Just how you calculate the calories expended is difficult because the inputs are a bit vague. However, I use the calculated amount and then add the specific calories burnt from exercise. Once you have estimated of the deficit, expressed in calories, you can calculate the expected weight loss for the week in two steps. One, divide the calorie deficit by 9 to get grams of fat burnt. Two, scale that up by multiplying the grams of fat by 1.15 because you loose the fat plus some water.

I think 1200 would be a good amount of cals per day. Maybe try to put your carbs percentage really low say: 70% good fats, 25% protein and 5% carbs. That way you’ll get in ketoses and I’m sure you’ll burn cals!!

Oh gosh, reading these comments scares me. We need to focus on HEALTH and well-being, for the long-term, using sustainable food principals. Low carb is NOT good for hormones, and will cause issues later down the track with things like insulin resistance/PCOS/cravings etc, and also totally drain you of energy to be able to work out. You need to try hit MINIMUM of 120g protein each day, and let the carbs and fats sort themselves out based off that, but eat GOOD carbs (veggies etc) and GOOD fats (avocado etc). If you're eating 1600 and not losing weight, then try pick up more exercise. Depleting yourself is going to make exercise harder, as your body will go into total shut down and start giving you pains and injuries that will prevent exercising and even moving. There's so so so many factors for women, I recommend following "healwithfifi" on Instagram, she is AMAZING!

There is a way to think about the calorie deficit. It's my way right so take it with a pinch of salt. if you are needing to drop weight, that means you must be with a BMI higher than normal. So, if your BMI is normal then this calculation isn't applicable. You look at your current TDEE based on your age, weight and height. Then look at the ideal weight to have normal BMI. Use that weight and find out TDEE again. Then start consuming calories of normal weight. Because you would be burning more calories based on your current needs, eating at normal weight level would work as a calorie deficit. With this method, you don't need to adjust too much when you hit your normal weight.
