I would be super annoyed. Suspend your membership and figure something else out. Are they renovating the pool or the whole gym?

They are renovating the gym and building a new 'spa retreat' next to the pool, Katsolo. So the sauna is off until November(!!!!!!) The pool is off for 2 months and the gym has been temporarily relocated to a tennis court, leaving half the stuff behind.
I am going to drive to their other facility a couple of times during the week to see if that works (its OK at the weekend, no rush hour) But, if it's no use I will suspend and go elsewhere. I am sure it will be lovely when it is finished but I hate feeling that I have been taken advantage of!

That’s why I would suspend it. No revenue from me while their facilities are broken up. Maybe buy some gym/class passes for random things you’d like to try but don’t want a whole membership for? Underwater rock climbing? 🤣

Me too, adpreso. I know they are in it to generate as much revenue as they can but for me as a customer it doesn’t build brand loyalty and I will cancel my membership sooner rather than later now and give them poor reviews if asked.

well, it is inconvenient indeed. I like my gym chain I luckily have around because I have 6 of various locations in "willing to go there" proximity so I always have options for classes/spa ir pool I want. as a person without option to set measured routine, open choice is the reason I joined and keep membership for years. If I asked - I'd go around on trial days all around and make decision about leaving club after. you may happily rejoin it if renovated club will be neat in November, I'm sure business know already it may happen. also, summer is perfect excuse to terminate membership - holidays, travel, time outside and so on ...

Yes, ta300k. I exercise 5 days a week so it has to fit into my daily routine so driving miles to another motorway exit doesn't work for me during the week. I have put in my notice to cancel my membership but will continue to use the further away club at weekends until the cancellation period is up. There is a university gym and pool I used to go to nearby so will go back there during the week. It has a more competitive atmosphere that I was trying to step away from but I will just have to get on with it!

As they say, Wifey.....where there is a will there is a way. But such an annoyance. Training has to be slick and part of your routine so all this faffing about isn't helpful.

Its all a bit 1980s these leisure clubs tying you into memberships. The pay as go model is a much better way of doing things, much more modern. Good for you for making a stand.

I know what you mean, GT3R. It does seem a bit clunky in this day and age. I have been a member of many other gyms, pools and clubs over the years and nowadays they all have flexible contracts except this one. It's not even that exclusive....since I joined I have learned that they do 3-month trial memberships, 2 weeks for £20 passes and regularly offer free 2-day trials which leave the clubs overrun.
