I hope anyone can help me. I don't know if I am pushing myself too hard. But I feel a bit exhausted since I am in fasting month. I vomit after meal since yesterday. Is that a sign of ketosis? nausea and headache and also a bit tired. I workout every night at 8.30 pm. Mostly aerobic. I am still waiting for my ketone strips to arrive. I've ordered it online. I really hope I can lose weight faster.

What do you mean fasting month?Just from what you wrote I would say you need some sodium.Have a cup of full fat broth.Maybe that will help

thanks Sexynonna. Oh fasting month is on my religion which I am fasting from about 6 am to 7.30 pm in this month. Just hearing of a cup of full fat broth makes my head spinning. I am really craving for some fruits but since Atkins doesn't allow any intakes of fruits during induction so I don't know what else to eat.

Reanna I just checked your bio and see you are doing Atkins.Since your carbs are so low I assume you are following the 1972 book.Since you are only in the first week,you shouldn't be fasting. The headache is part of the Atkins flu and and normal as you enter ketosis.You will feel better if you have some full sodium,full fat broth for a oouple of day and then it will pass.Ease off on the exercise till then. You didn't gain weight all at once so take things one day at a time.Learn the plan and take it slow. You will lose.

Thank u so much sexynonna. I thought I really really have to cut down on my carbs if I want to lose weight faster. As u can see on my food diary.. and I am a bit upset too because I consume protein much more than fat which I read before it can slow down my progress and I end up feeling crap and don't know what else to eat. I will try to have some broth and ease off my exercise. Thanks so much for your feedback :)

Sorry,I didn't realize you were fasting for religious reasons. You are definitely pushing too hard ,especially with being on a fast. I would suggest backing off the exercise till afterward.

Does your fasting allow you to eat after a certain hour. If so, that is your time to get all the 1500-2000 calories you need during the time you are not eating and exercising heavily. Rest and get a good night's sleep. Drink lots of water so at least you have something to come up when the nausea starts. Feel better!!!

Hi Reanna, Your fasting doesn't help at all. But we can't dispute that. I would wait with the proper diet until it is finished. Fom my experience I've learned that you need to eat regularly to lose weight. There are many low carb recipes here on fatsecret. The ideas may help you to cut down on carbs. It takes some time to assess what is good and bad for you. But be patient an do some research. It will definitely pay off. It's always hard to start. but I keep my fingers crosed! Good luck :)

The ketone strips are not very accurate so I would trust them to tell you. The best way is to follow the Atkins book in regards to what to eat & how much. Throwing up is not part of ketosis. Hope you feel better :o)

thanks so much for your feedback. I will try to ease off to feel much better. But I must say right now, I have the fear of carbs. I really2 watch what am I eating. to tell you,I just finished having 2 piece of kfc skinless fried chicken breast, I came here to measure its contain and I feel so upset when the carbs showed are too much from what I expected.

As crazy as it may seem to some, I log my food in PRIOR to eating it & sometimes I even plan my meals on fatsecret the day before. That way I know what my carb intake, etc.. will be & I can adjust it accordingly. However, I am struggling myself between counting calories & going low carb. I find low carb very hard to do when I am not at home to cook all my meals myself.

My wife and I are currently doing the PSMF Diet through the Cleveland Clinic. Ketosis is the main goal but doing it safely and through medical supervision. There are pills we are required to take (Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and so on) because we are denying things from our body via food. We are guided to eat no more than 20 carbs in a day and we have specific protein levels we need to meet each day. The first four - five days were "painful" for us and we would both come home from teaching and fall asleep (this was at 4:30 in the afternoon). Newdowilli is correct on many accounts as is Bella691967. We use the Ketone strips to double check that we are in Ketosis, but they are only a guide. It does not matter the color (light vs dark) just that we stay in Ketosis. Through this diet and the doctors, I am down 50 lbs since May 7. For many, they will tell you that is way too much weight and too quick of a weight loss. I would agree if I was not having blood drawn to monitor my vitals and the education provide by the Clinic. Please, do not hurt your body by trying to force it into Ketosis and potentially having your Gall Bladder tank on you. Look for Low Carb meals, shop looking for low carb options, eat three meals a day with snakes inbetween (almonds are my favorite), and please do not throw up after meals. I wish you the best. Thom

I've found that the key for getting me into healthy ketosis and staying there were regular small meals throughout the day, every few hours. Not all carbs are the enemy all the time! If I must spend long times between meals, I ditch the ketosis and load up on healthy carbs (no sugars or processed grains, but healtier versions). Ketosis is mostly useful to me as an appetite control, the real loss comes from the lower calorie intake that appetite control makes easier. Plan on eating fruits, vegetables and healthy carbs like some whole grain rice (in limited quantities) with the meats for rounded meals during your fast, then go all-out on Atkins after the month is over. And Happy Ramadan!

thank you @decomposer. I will not relying only on the ketone strips. I am on my induction period and the daily recommended intake of carbs is below 20gram. so i thought if i can cut down more, it will be better. since I am now on fasting month, i think I can lose more weight since I really cannot eat anything from 5.30 am to 7.30 pm. Today I feel much better, not too tired. Thanks for your support! Good luck to u too. :) @FringyLiz i would like to ask if I can eat processed food, such as sausages,beef patties or fish cakes during induction? Since its easier to prepare. I cannot eat fruits coz its so high in carbs and sugar. All of my atkins friend here telling me not to eat fruit which I am craving right now. Oh and thanks for your feedback! Happy Ramadhan too ^^

You may want to ease up a bit on the workout this fasting month, especially as you do it after eating, which is not the perfect timing for the body. Replace it for a nice slow walk after breaking fast if you can. Good luck!

I cannot imagine anyone trying to induce ketosis. And buying strips to maintain it. There has to be a problem when any ¨diet¨ requires extra nutrients to ¨make it work¨. What´s wrong with just good ole food. Like, steamed brocolli, stir fried veggies. Fruit shake. Where do the antioxidents come from when you don´t eat any fruits, veggies. Where does the fiber come from that keeps you regular come if you don´t eat fiber? The minerals that your body needs? To lose 20 kilos, about 44 pounds, is about 154,000 calories negative. To lose 2 kilos a week, or about 4.4 pounds a week, would require negative 15,400 calories a week for about 10 weeks, or more than 2000 calories negative a day. That is day after day. Week after week. And then, afterward, what´s maintenance? Self inflicted ketosis your whole life? Maybe something like weight watcher´s would be more reasonable. And, maybe an adjustment on your weight loss goal. You should NOT be sick, throwing up. Loss of energy is not a normal outcome from losing weight. You should be feeling better, more energy. yeah, beware5289 has it right.

I'm on Atkins as well, and in the updated version the recommended carb intake is 20-25. Make sure you are only counting the net carbs, which is the total carbs minus the carbs from fiber, and SUGAR ALCHOHOLS (mostly found in foods and drinks made with artificial sweeteners). Also cooking with natural fats like unsalted butter helps get the fat % higher and adds calories. Beef is a good protein to use during this time as well. It's much higher in fat and calories that other meats so it will help overcome the calorie deficit while you are fasting. When you are limited it's best to make every bite count.
