So I'm checking out a gym. It looks nice, but I want to see in practice if it's actually a good investment based on usage. (It's easy enough to get carried away by the sales pitch and a 'New Year's resolution type attitude*, but in the daily grind is it something that I can use regularly; that I can make worthwhile?)

In any case, I had wanted to check out a class there, but I didn't get there in time. I decided to use the time to cycle instead. I cycled 7.22 miles in 25min. I determined my velocity was somewhere between 17.2 and 18.05mph (depending on how you round the dividend; v=d/t for 25min means t comes to 5/12 or 4.16repeating). What is interesting to me is that the display on the exercise bike said that in the time I cycled I burned 165 calories. Entering it as exercise on FS (25 min for very fast-17.5mph- bicycling) tells me that I burned 300+ calories.

I hope that you can find a gym that you like and that works into your schedule...I would use the bicycles numbers for your exercise diary...better to underestimate, rather than overestimate, in my opinion. You are doing fabulous!
