To whomever it was who suggested roasting rutabagas and using rutabagas in hash - THANK YOU.
Actually I think it was a quite few of you who were sharing different uses for the funny sounding veggie. I've always only cooked it one way - boiled and mashed. Now I feel like I have a whole new world of substitute comfort food.
It is 6:30 and I'm thinking about bed already. It is going to be a long day at work tomorrow.

Oh I have to try this I love em but like you Buffy only know boiled and mashed. Any veggie roasted has to be real good, don't know why I haven't thought of it before. Hope your long day tomorrow isn't to bad.....

Okay I'm lost here. Rutabagas and Hash? I'm ashamed to say I'm totally ignorant of these two things, enlighten me please, they sound exotic!

I confess, I can never remember which is which between rutabaga, turnips & parsnip...I will have to give them another go-around & try roasting the rutabaga...they are on my grocery list!

Joey - Unlike white potatoes, the rutabaga is not starchy (think good carbohydrates), filled with fiber and nutrient dense. It was first cultivated in Sweden. Boiled and mashed, it kind of tastes like a sweet turnip. However when roasted, they taste more like parsnips. In the hash, I substituted them for potatoes (along with onion and meat) and they were unbelievably good.

Adding meat, onion and fat might just make this a doable veggie for me! Thanks. Work tomorrow - me too. Yuk...but I am leaving at 1:30 for a hair appointment and a spray tan. I want to do the tanning because my shoes stay on better without hose. :)
