Maybe someone on a low carb diet will be more helpful than my answer, but triple digits could be a total food serving inclusive of all fats, proteins, etc. All low carb means is the carb content is low, and does not take into account the total calories. Make sure you get the per portion serving nutrition label. "Low carb" also has no real definition. It means different things to different people. To me low carb has the following meanings: 0 to <20 grams per day is Keto. "Moderate" is 20 to 50 grams and "Liberal Low Carb" is 50 to 100 grams per day. ALL of these fall under a description of "Low Carb", yet it is clearly not the same thing. Other people here may have different meanings and I don't know what your picture means by "Low Carb". You need to check the actual carb content against what suits your own diet - mine is not Low Carb, but falls under "Liberal Low Carb". Also see if they are seperating actual sugar (sucrose/ fructose) from "carbs" in terms of numbers because it can skew what is "low carb" (Hopefully someone else can be of a bit better help with your question.)

I can't make out reference to calories on that image but don't mix up calories and kilojules.

Thanks...helpful....I assumed low carb automatically translates into a low number of calories...will get more info on the stuff.

I'm doing low carb. As in seriously low carb - been in ketosis for 4 weeks now. And since then I don't count calories anymore. As long as you don't eat stuff that will kick you out of ketosis it's fine. My carbs for the day is less than 15 gr - and I eat bread, buns, pita, porridge, lasagne, pies, pizza, lots of salad, spinach, butternut, occasionally red wine, Rusks, cheese, butter, eggs, chocolates, fudge, ice cream etc and a gin and tonic every evening. Just make sure everything is sugarfree. I love the food I'm eating now. Never bloated and no hunger pains! Plus the best part is I'm not feeling deprived or on a diet! Go check out https://lowcarbfactory.co.za/ and try their food! I get mine there!

I get my carbs mostly from veg , and keep it below 20g , ketogirl is correct u don't have to deprive yourself , if you eat the correct things , its the pasta , rice , bread , potatoes , and sugar , that makes us fat and unhealthy, by doing low carb , we have to rid the body from ,carbs , carbs make us crave for more carbs , if you suffer from inflammation , or diabetes , you can get rid of it by doing a strict low carb diet

You are a thermodynamic system. As long as you use more energy than you take in you will lose weight. Low carb, high carb, only protein etc none of that actually matters. Some people find low carb an easy way to restrict calories, but as long as your net energy balance is negative you will lose.

@ZA Viking. Unfortunately, a calorie is not a calorie in how it is metabolized, where it is metabolized, or what % ends up as de novo (new) fat. That thinking is wrong and why we have an obesity epidemic around the world. (Replacement of fat with carbs and added sugar since the lat 70s / 80s.) Fewer calories than requirement does result in weight loss, but what you eat DOES matter. Have a look at endocrinology studies - especially from UCLA which look at weight loss and endocrinology / Dr Robert Lustig and you will see that your premise is unfortunately outdated.

@ miss Cornwall I think your understanding of de novo lipogenesis is flawed. De novo lipogenesis is the synthesis of fatty acids from nonlipid precursors (carbs etc). It doesn't refer to the formation of new fat cells nor the storage of fat. Your body needs fats and will create them itself if you force it to (too low dietary fat). Lustig's opinions on fructose metabolism and weight gain have been challenged by some systematic reviews of clinical research and a number of experts don't agree with him. Sugar consumption is falling pretty rapidly, but obesity is going up. That says to me that sugar may not be the culprit. Hell, mark haub lost lots of weight eating twinkies and Doritos. Lots of people will take an extreme stance on diet to sell books. As long as you have enough of everything and not too much of anything you will be fine. No food is inherently evil.
