Had a mess up with my food a couple days ago, but have stayed on track since then...I have to say I'm really pleased with myself. Usually one mess up leads to weeks of mess ups. Which is why I believe I have never been able to keep the weight off in the past. It's like every day has to be perfect or I'm done! That is so silly, and I see that now. I can't wait until my Monday weigh in to see how much I've lost.

I've felt that way for the longest time! If I overate by 50 calories, I was like, well screw it, I'm already over - which is not the correct mindset at all. What helps me from going over is planning out what I'm going to eat in advance with the diet calendar. Most days it helps other days I ignore it. :) Good luck with the Monday weigh in!

Thanks that's a good idea about planning out meals. I'll have to try that.

I used to feel and react exactly the same way you did when it came to messing up the diet, but I have a different outlook on things now. Look at your mess-ups as learning opportunities. What I mean by this is when you don't follow things exactly the way you planned them then there is something obviously wrong with your diet----NOT YOU. Keeping the weight off is a life-style change and it takes awhile to learn what works for you. There is no pre-packaged diet out there that is "perfect" for everyone. You have to find what works for you and that's a process. Every time you mess up on your diet, take a look at why. Are you starving yourself? Are you eating too many carbs, fats, etc? Are you not realistic with your goals? Are you trying to keep too many "food rules" at once? You answer could be anything. Only you can answer these questions. Do your best to figure out what caused your lapse in dieting and modify your diet for you. Make it so YOU can keep on track. For instance, some people feel deprived if they eliminate foods they love and end up cheating and overeating, so they allow themselves these foods on occasion. I find that I can't control how much of my favorites I eat, so it's easier for me to eliminate them completely. We are all different. Personalize your diet for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much worm2butterfly I never looked at dieting that way. It really is a learning process.

Just concentrate on the fact that you've been doing well for a couple of days. I know when I mess up, when I get going again it makes me feel so good to see green numbers on my food diary again, or see that I don't go over my RDI by more than 105%. When I can count two, three, five, ten days behind me and my mess up, it always makes me feel better, more in control, and more resolved that I AM going to do this.
