I was talking to my Course leader the other day and she mentioned music to pass the time whilst exercising. I used to use a rowing machine and always played Smetana's ' Moldau (Vlatava) from his tone poem 'Ma Vlast'. It is quite a popular piece, not one of these obscure Radio 3 jobs. Any way it tells the story of the river as it starts off as a trickle and gradually gets stronger and faster and then goes over the rapids until it gradually slows down into a broad slow river that meets the sea. At 13 minutes it really is an excellent piece to accompany you.
