"Let's Go Nuts!!"

Healthiest nuts
According to the George Mateljan Foundation’s list of the world’s healthiest foods, the healthiest nuts include:

■Almonds: High in vitamin E, magnesium, copper, vitamin B2 and phosphorus and concentrated in protein. The majority of fat in almonds is heart healthy mono-unsaturated fat.
■Cashews: High in antioxidants, mono-unsaturated fats and phosphorus and with a lower fat content than many other nuts.
■Flaxseeds (Linseed): High in omega-3 fatty acids, beneficial for anti-inflammatory properties, as well as vitamin B6, fibre and manganese.
■Peanuts: High in mono-unsaturated fats, flavonoids, antioxidants, and folic acid. They are also high in vitamin B3 and are thought to contain an antioxidant known as resveratrol, which is thought to have anti-aging effects.
■Pumpkin Seeds: High in essential fatty acids, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamin K, these may be beneficial for arthritis and help lower cholesterol.
■Sesame Seeds: Good source of Vitamin B1, mono-unsaturated fats, and phytosterols which inhibit cholesterol production.
■Sunflower seeds: High in linoleic acid, fibre, magnesium and phytosterols.
■Walnuts: High in omega 3 fatty acids, manganese and copper. They also contain an essential amino acids used by the body to make nitric oxide, which is required for keeping blood vessels flexible.

Good list - I use sesame seeds sometimes as a seasoning - weird, but adds a nice taste sometimes to fish or chicken.

Have you toasted the sesame seeds beforehand? I enjoy the nutty taste and texture when slightly toasted. We often use the black sesame seeds for a change as well. Quick recipe idea: Fresh spinach barely wilted in water. Chop it up into bite-size pieces. Mix with crumbled tofu. Sprinkle with black sesame & salt. (Optional) a few drops of soy sauce on top.

I LOVE ALL THOSE NUTS. BUT WHEN I EAT TOO MANY. THEY STAY IN MY GUT. Hope you like my hiaku on the love of nuts and their constipating properties! :-P

When I eat nuts, I always lose count. I love the little clear sauce cups (with lids) from Smart & Final. For example, I know 17 Emerald Cocoa Almonds = 100 calories (more economical than the 100 calorie packs). The cups are also handy for portion control (like 1/4 cup of shredded beef for my salad), and I freeze them inside a freezer bag. Yep, I do love my nuts, including my nutty husband.

I wish I could eat nuts,...I love them! But as soon as they start creeping back into my diet, my weight loss stops. Completely. I can get away with a few sprinkled on my salad, but then they are dangerous to have around.

Ya, I havnt had a problem with natural almonds (2-4 nCarbs p/serving). But cashews on the other hand... completely different. I really have to watch those bad boys. I hear good things about walnuts. I might pick up a bag if the net carbs are low enough per serving. I'm kind of glad macadamias are so expensive. I could eat a whole bottle if I don't watch it. But at 6 bucks a bottle, I'll pass

Ohhhh... macadamias. The best are either raw macadamias (but you'll need a sledgehammer to crack them) or powdered cocoa macadamias. Great. Now that's all I'm going to think about for the next hour. I guess I'll have to settle for a cup of chocolate macadamia Kona coffee.

Interesting list! I usually stick to almonds and cashews and its happens to be the healthiest. Sunflower seeds are good but too much work to eat..lol

Mornin! I took it nice and easy. I wanted to pick up speed sooo bad, but I knew better. A couple times a felt a little pain on inclines, but being really careful and having a mid foot strike, It held up nicely. And ahhh... diet and exercise shows it's results, once again! >=D
