Mr Coco took me out for my birthday dinner last night since I was busy Thursday night. Went to another great restaurant with an award-winning chef and it was fantastic. They serve fresh locally grown foods in season. I had a persimmon salad, roasted duck breast with confit and grits, and caramel apple tart. I'd never had a persimmon before, but I loved it. They served it sliced thin on the bottom of the bed of greens. The duck was served with cumquats and beets, an unusual but wonderful combination. The apple tart came with a walnut-fennel conserve, and I've never had fennel before, although I've seen it on cooking shows more often these days. I love trying new foods. Mr Coco brought some wine with us -- I think it was Domaine Faillenc Sainte-Marie Vin de Pays d'Oc Rosé. It was really smooth and sweet. Wanted to remember the name of it to serve at family Christmas dinner this year.
