Toh-hoku festival (Northern Japan) held by one of Japanese grocery stores in my city. They sold many kinds of gourmet foods and goodies from Northern Japan area.
I bought famous sweets from Sendai prefecture. It is called “ Hagi no Tsukiji (The Moon of Hagi or The Moon of Lespedeza). Sendai plain field is famous area of lespedenza, that blooms around the full moon in Autumn. That’s the reason why this sweets is shaped like harvest full Moon. It has custard cream inside of soft sponge cake.
One more thing. Japanese people love to eat with their “eyes”, that means they enjoy foods with several serving dishes. They enjoy and respect the shape and color. If you go to Japanese restaurant, you see many kinds of shape of serving dishes. With that reason, even this tiny sweet is wrapped individually with many shape of box and paper.
When you have a chance to go to Japanese restaurants or have something from Japan, you will notice why they use many serving dishes or so many wrapping paper and boxes. This is one of Japanese culture.
